About Us

Sure we’ve been knocking around years

The Butcher Block is situated in Sunnyside, Queens where it has been a staple in the community for the past 26 years. Despite its name, The Butcher Block, offers much more than just meat. It has been the primary importer of Irish and British goods in the Queens area. Many describe walking into The Butcher Block as taking a trip back to Ireland. The aisles are full of the essentials – Barry’s Tea, Tayto, Brennan’s Bread, and a huge selection of Cadbury chocolates.

Meet The Team

The Owners – NOEL & MIKE

Noel and Mike started their butcher journeys in Ireland. Once they moved stateside, they each worked 80+ hours a week, to save money and start their dream of having their own store. In 1995, the boys opened The Butcher Block in Sunnyside, Queens. After a few years, the entire block it was location on, burned down. Thankfully, with all the success they had before this, they were able to start fresh across the street. They have made themselves a staple in Sunnyside by importing Irish and English grocery items every week – shipping across America. Noel and Mike made it a little easier for those who want a taste of home without the bad weather.

NITO – Deli manager

Hector “Nito” Ortiz has been the manager of the deli since The Butcher Block was on the other side of the boulevard. Nito moved to America and was working as Head Chef in a busy New York City restaurant beside Madison Square Garden. Thankfully, with all the different nationalities in Queens, Nito is multilingual and communicates with all our customers in their language, which makes their experience simple and hassle free.

Benji and Leo have over 30 years of experience between them. Noel and Mike brought over their Irish sausage, bacon (rasher), black pudding (blood sausage) and white pudding recipes; they taught the butchers how to prepare and cut the meat the Irish way. These butchers know how to cook the meat they serve, they will suggest the best cuts for the meal you are preparing, and they will also give you times and temperatures for the dish. The butchers are the equivalent to Google with knives.


Chef Wayne Mungaroo started working in The Butcher Block 3 years ago. He is a vital member of our team with exceptional experience. Chef Wayne started as a Sous Chef in a Japanese restaurant in London. He continued up the ladder working in Michelin Star restaurants and travelling the world gaining experience as he cooks. He has reconstructed menus and developed new dishes constantly for each workplace he has been to. Chef Wayne makes over 20 different dishes, family style, every day for our hot food counter in The Butcher Block. Each dish is from a different culture, appealing to the most diverse urban area in the world – Queens, NY.

ERIN KEEVER – logistics

Erin came to New York back in 2015 after she graduated from NUIG with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. She fell in love with the city (and her husband) and moved here. She worked in finance and the restaurant industry for over 5 years. When covid hit, she started looking for an essential job.Erin has been the Head of Logistics at The Butcher Block for over a year now. She looks after payroll for over 30 staff members each week, oversees all deliveries locally and nationwide and, has opened more opportunities for The Butcher Block from building a website and adding the store to other platforms (DoorDash, Postmates, UberEats, UberCornershop). Along with all of this, she has successfully installed a new register system and programmed multiple scales in the store.

The butcherblock also offers a large extensive catering menu, we have been doing this for Twenty some years so I think we can call ourselves experts in catering at this point. For events small and big we have the perfect dishes on our menu to please everyone.
